Project Red: A Quick Update

The new year has been incredibly busy for me so far.  Something I didn't really expect.  Each week, I think to myself that I will have more time the following week, but so far that theory has not held up.  Honestly, when I first started Project Red, I had anticipated to be posting more frequently than I have been.  Needless to say, I am very behind in posting and I actually have a few backlog of red manis to share still.

Even with all the craziness, I have stayed true to my Project Red.  There was half a day that I went au natural because I had a funeral service to attend.  Although it may have been perfectly fine to put on a darker red, I just felt it was better if I went without.

I am hoping work will settle down soon, and I will finally get a bit more free time.  So that my red manis don't go to waste, I have decided to extend my Project Red beyond the month of January, and go through to Valentine's Day.  I hope my readers will bear with me and continue to come by to pay me a visit.  I promise to back soon with a red mani post.

Project Red: Chanel Le Vernis Dragon 475 - Ringing in the Year of the Dragon

Happy Chinese New Year!

January 23rd marks the first moon day of the new lunar year in 2012, which is said to be the 4,709th Chinese year.  We have entered the Year of the Dragon.  The dragon, is the most favored sign out of the twelve Chinese Zodiac animals.  It's believed that people born on the year of the dragon are the luckiest people, showing character of strength , passion, intellect and fortune.  I'm no dragon baby, neither anyone in my family, but we all still hold high hopes for the new lunar year.

The color of red in Chinese culture, and many other Asian culture as well, symbolizes good luck, happiness and joy.  So to ring in the new lunar year, it was naturally fitting for me to choose Chanel's Dragon.  The most perfectly eye-catching classic red crème...

Project Red: OPI Royal Rajah Ruby

Pulling out an oldie from a few years back...  OPI Royal Rajah Ruby was released in spring 2008, part of the India collection.  It's a blackened ruby red with red micro-shimmer.  I love vampy colors, so it's no wonder that I couldn't resist this beautiful ruby version.

Project Red: Barielle Glammed Out Garnet

Barielle Glammed Out Garnet is from their fall 2009 collection, All Lacquered Up, a collaboration with, of course, Michelle Mismas of All Lacquered Up.  If you haven't seen the collection, you must.  The collection consists a total of twelve colors.  Yes, that's right, twelve!  And I have to say that although I don't own all of the colors, I do own several, but I really love them all.

Now, back to Glammed Out Garnet...

Project Red: Essie Fishnet Stockings

Hot!  That's how I would describe Essie Fishnet Stockings.  A true crimson crème, with a slight darkness to it, making it even more alluring.  I don't know what it was that attracted me to this one... maybe the gorgeous color, or perhaps the sexy name on the bottle.  Either way, I couldn't resist it.  Apparently, I am not alone on this one.  I read somewhere that Fishnet Stockings was Dita Von Teese's signature nail color.  Well, I can certainly see why Miss Von Teese would favor this classic red beauty.

Project Red: Julep Demi

Julep Demi arrived at doorstep as part of my December's Julep Maven "Bombshell" Box.  My Julep style profile is actually "Classic with a Twist", but I couldn't resist the richness of the Demi when I saw the preview.  I switched that month and I'm very happy I did.

Elegant burgundy, like fine wine, is how Julep describes Demi.  The color certainly is very elegant, and very reminiscent to that of matured red wine.

Project Red: OPI OPI Red

No, that's not a typo in the title.  This OPI nail color is really named OPI Red, thus the double "OPI" in title.  A little confusing right?

When I first saw this one, I assumed it was your basic pretty red crème and  it just sat in my drawer untouched.  Most of my red stash are crèmes, and I have a few favorites that get more love and attention from me.  I kind of forgot about OPI Red until I started pulling out my untried reds for this project.  I did my first scan of colors and came up with my list.  This one almost didn't made the cut, but I'm sure glad it did!   All this time, as it sat in my drawer, I just assumed it was a basic crème .

Project Red: Zoya Jasmine

In honor of Chinese New Year, which will be on January 23rd this year, I've decided to do a month of reds.  I will be calling this my "Project Red".  Aside from dark vampy colors, I also have a weakness for red nail polish.  Yes, I have a lot of reds in my stash, and sadly lots of them still untouched.  So again, I thought this would be another great opportunity for me to try to get through some of them.  I did this last year as well during Chinese New Year month, but that was in February, the shortest month, and before I had a blog.  My collection of reds has only grown since that time...

To kick things off, I'm starting with Zoya Jasmine.  I chose this particular color mainly for the name.  Jasmine happens to be my mother's name, so it's only fitting that I start off with her.

Rococo Nail Apparel Gold Leaf Nail Varnis

The elegant luster of the 18th century Versailles was the inspiration behind Rococo Gold Leaf.  It's a clear top coat containing large flecks of 24 carat gold leaf.  It can be worn alone, or layered over another color, elevating the color to another level.

Happy 2012!

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you everyone enjoyed a safe and wonderful New Years Eve.

We opt to stay home this year, and I got to spend a wonderful time with my husband and our two kids.  The kids and hubby played the Kinect, while I sat back and watched.  I always enjoy watching the kids enjoying themselves.  Sometimes they can a get a little crazy, but in the end, it's just them being kids and having a good time.

The quiet night nice consist of a nice dinner; one we didn't have to cook ourselves.  Afterwards, we enjoyed a family movie together.  Shortly after the movie, we were able to catch the ball drop on television and ring in the new year together as a family.  The kids were thrilled they got to stay up past midnight.  Needless to say, they crashed 10 minutes after midnight.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2012!  May the new year be prosperous and bring you health, peace and much happiness.
