Deborah Lippmann Stairway to Heaven
Deborah Lippmann released six new colors in her Holiday collection for 2011. Stairway to Heaven is one of the six colors, and also a limited edition. It's a mix of square and hexagonal iridescent glitter suspended in a milky white base. You can see it in the bottle how it flashes a multitude of soft pretty colors.
I'm going to sidetrack here a bit and say that I absolutely love that Deborah Lippmann nail colors are named after songs. I also have to be honest here and say that Stairway to Heaven had me even before I saw the color. Yes, I'm a huge fan of the Led Zeppelin song! Love! Obviously, I just had to have this one, even if it was for the namesake. Stairway to Heaven also happens to be the song playing when I danced my very first boy-girl slow dance, at my first school dance in junior high school. Funny thing is I can't remember the name of the boy I danced with.
Although I think the nail color is perfectly named, I knew Stairway to Heaven would apply sheer on the nail, so I didn't bother testing it out by itself. This would strictly be a layering polish for me. I'm not one for pastel or soft colors, so I went with something on the darker side and chose Zoya Ibiza to test out.
I found the formula to be thicker, but not in a bad way. It did take a little work to spread out the glitter, to get them where I wanted so it was not all clumped in one area. I ended up using 2 coats. I think Zoya Ibiza really brought out the blue, teal and copper in the glitter. The milky base of Stairway to Heaven actually lighten the dark blue base just ever so slightly. I'm very happy with the end results. I may have not been sure of this one in the beginning, but I'm really loving it layered. I'm already thinking about what other color combination I will do next with Stairway to Heaven.
